Christmas Traditions
16 Dec 2001

I finished my Christmas shopping today. Woo hoo! Well actually I still have to buy some PJ's for me and Lulu. This year, I'm starting traditions for our family. Here's a few:
  • New Pajamas that we open on Christmas Eve
  • Eat Lasagna for Christmas Eve dinner
  • Roast Chicken for Christmas dinner (I know that turkey is more traditional, but I loathe turky! Besides, there's only Ray, Lulu, AJ and me so it would be stupid for me to make a big old turkey)
  • Midnight Mass the night before. I'm not Catholic, and I don't plan on raising Lauren and AJ Catholic, but Ray likes to pretend that he's a god-fearing man, even though he only goes twice a year.
  • Sing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve
  • Read the story of Jesus birth from the Bible (Even though I'm a heathen, I think we should at least pretend to remember what Christmas is all about)
  • If I can find a recipe and a picture, I'd like to make Bûche de Noël, which is a cake decorated to look like a yule log. I read somewhere that this is big in France, Quebec, and Lebanon with the Maronite Christians, a tradition picked up from the French occupation. I think it would be kinda cool to incorperate traditions from around the world.
That's all I can think of right now. When we were growing up, we used to go to my grandparents house on Christmas Eve with all my cousins. That would be so much fun, except my family is so far away. :( And on top of that, my parents are divorced and it would be a big hassle to go to one and then to the other (they live two hours away from each other). But it would be so cute to watch Lulu and Wyatt running around together, or to see AJ playing with Ainslee (when they get older of course). I miss my family a lot.
